“Exhibition in becoming: Taipei country art exhibition and experimental art,1992-1997” was commissioned by the New Taipei City Museum of Art and is the result of a research project on the exhibition history of New Taipei City (then Taipei County) in the 1990s. The Establishment Cultural Center (now the New Taipei City Cultural Bureau) drastically reformed local art exhibitions, changed the submission system, canceled the classification of media, invited art critics to serve as curators, introduced outdoor exhibition formats, invited international artists to produce on-site, and launched government-run art exhibitions. The New Taipei City Museum of Art is also planning an international forum called “RESTLESS AMBIANCE: —— Re-exploring Experimental Arts in Taiwan and Beyond”, inviting 18 domestic and foreign experts and scholars to deliver speeches and dialogues. The forum included the keynote speech “Archives and their Ghosts” and four roundtable discussions, including “Research Methods in Exhibition History and Archives”, “Rebellion and Reconstruction of the Body”, “Production and Reproduction of Space” and “Criticism and Publishing” “Critical Consciousness” and other four sub-questions.
