The Other Story: From the Collection of Taitung Art Museum to Taitung Art History
This book was commissioned by the Taitung County Government and is the result of a project jointly implemented by Ocular Art Studio and Taiwan Visual Art Archive. Scholar Chiang Po-shin serves as the project host and editor-in-chief of the book. It presents the annual history of Taitung art and the collection of the Taitung Museum of Art. , field survey results. The book is based on the three main axes of “Back Mountain”, “South Island” and “Offsite”. It invites Chiang Po-shin, Lui Pei-yi, Hsiao Hsiang-wei, Wu Shang-yu, etc., who are art history, exhibition history, and anthropology background researchers to write special articles, including 40 items. An analysis of Taitung art works (including 30 pieces from the Taitung Art Museum collection) and 12 in-depth interviews with Taitung artists and curators.
The title of the book “The Other Story” comes from Pakistani artist Rashid. The important exhibition “The Other Story: Afro-Asian Artists in Post-War Britain” curated by Rasheed Araeen in the UK in 1989 focused on the perspective of white Europeans. The excluded and suppressed other/Asian and African art. This book echoes this spirit. Through in-depth research on Taitung art, it captures the various elements that intersect “Taitung” and outlines another story that has not yet been told in detail apart from the mainstream discussion of Taiwanese art, especially people and nature. , the dialectical trajectory of the purity of life in Taitung Art.
This book won the 112th Taiwan Historica Award for Outstanding Published Documents and Books.
