In response to poor exhibition performance, NMH would reassess its participation in the 9th Bienal de São Paulo in 1967, changing its selection to first designate and invite artists, after which the artists would propose 5 – 8 works for participation, with sizes expanded to French standard sizes 60 (130 x 97 cm) to 100 (162 x 130 cm).
With progressing changes in quantity and work size, NMH would also attempt to describe the necessary attributes for selection, including “brilliance and vigor, while showcasing traits of Chinese culture,” but these attributes were illegible in a literal sense. The exhibition preface would only briefly touch upon mysticism, underlying religious consciousness and Chinese Chan Buddhism, without referring to specific exhibited works. Therefore the preface for the 9th Bienal de São Paulo could only be regarded as the beginning of a country’s moral consciousness.
